Re: Results from June 22, 2012 LSF Contest #2

Post by Bob H » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:11 pm

Due to threats from the weatherman, our LSF Contest#2 was changed from Thursday June 21 to the following day. Friday began with near-ideal weather conditions and the contest was on. No fewer than nine competitors clashed, with results as summarized below. A special SOGGI thanks goes to Mike Kucera who made the trek from St Catherines to be with us. Another special thanks goes to assistant CD Ann Tekatch, who amongst other things produced our scorecards, and posted her photos that you see above.

One striking fact arising from today's contest is that out of a total of 54 flights flown by our competitors, no fewer than 20 landings struck somewhere on the target (i.e 37 % of our landings were within 30 feet of the bullseye). This accomplishment was widely shared within the group, and no one landed off-field. Many of these landings were made under the somewhat turbulent conditions that existed in the afternoon. As a group, this is a vast performance improvement over SOGGI's pre-LSF days.

LSF participants pursue a series of goals that become progressively more challenging, but are achievable with some effort. LSF requires practice and determination to advance. That's about the only way any of us will ever improve our flying skills. If you want to give it a try, contact me or any of our other LSFer's for assistance.

OK, now for some more data:
Attaboys were awarded to Ray Munro (1st Place with 4580 pts), Mike Kucera (2nd with 4057 pts,) and Bob Hammett (3rd with 2398 pts), but Jim Laslet very nearly seized the latter Attaboy with his own 2391 pts. Dick Colley had 2191 pts, Les Peer 1127 pts, Ed Smith 908 pts, Ann Tekatch 570 pts and Heinz Gwisdek 486. Congrats to all for a well fought contest.

Hi Folks,

The current weather forecast for Thursday June 21 promises a 33 deg C temperature, 30 Km/hr winds and a 40% chance of thundershowers. Accordingly our LSF#2 Contest will be postponed for 24 hours to Friday June 22 which promises 25 degr C, 10 Km/Hr winds and only 30% chance of rain.

Pilot's meeting will be at 9:30 AM as before.

On Thursday June 21, 2012 the Southern Ontario Glider Group Inc. will host an open class R/C Sailplane contest.

Pilot registration starts at 9:30 AM. Proof of MAAC membership is required. Flying begins at 10 AM and as many rounds as weather permits will be flown. There will be no entry fee, but coveted Attaboys (or Attagirl's, as appropriate) will be awarded to 3rd place.

This Thermal Duration with Precision Landing Contest is open to all MAAC or AMA sailplane pilots, and to any winch or hi-start-launched sailplane. Emphasis is on having fun with interesting people. Rules will satisfy the relaxed League of Silent Flight (LSF) criteria so that LSF participants can claim LSF points, however LSF membership is not required.

Visiting pilots are advised to contact CD Bob Hammett (519-759-1939, the_hammetts@rogers.com) for last-minute updates and for driving directions to our new field near Binbrook, Ontario. Extra winches and Pilots from other clubs are always welcome.

MAAC Sanction# 2012-391
