Re: Electric Sailplane Contest (ALES) June 22, 2013
Mother Nature smiled on us today with winds much lighter than forecast and no rain!! Many thanks to all the competitors who braved the not-so-great forecast and participated in a most enjoyable day.
First place was taken by Larry Literovich of the GNATS (Greater Niagara Area Thermalers) club. Mike Sherlaw of the Brant Flyers (and a new SOGGI member!) captured second place. Les Peer of SOGGI earned third place.
Our next ALES Contest will be on Saturday, August 17, 2013. Mark your calendars now and please join us!!
For sailplane purists (non-powered sailplanes), check out our Saturday, July 20, 2013 Thermal Duration contest.
Not sure if contests are for you? Join us as a spectator or we can show you how to act as a timer. Our contests are open to all members of MAAC or the AMA and we welcome new contesters. Don't be intimidated. We'll make you have fun!!! If you're a serious contester, bring it! Many of our pilots are experienced competitors and welcome a challenge.

JUNE 21/13 Update: Weather forecast is showing challenging winds for our contest tomorrow so victory will be sweeter!
We will fly as many rounds as Mother Nature will allow. Pilots' meeting scheduled for 9:30 with flying to start about 10:00, weather gods willing.
My fingers (and toes) are crossed...
Ann Tekatch, CD
