Re: 2 Meter Contest August 3, 2013 Results

We had a very successful 2 meter contest on Saturday. It was windy, gusting in the mid 30s km/hr at times, but everyone survived with no significant mishaps. We completed 8 rounds of pure sailplane and 5 rounds of electric. The latter class was curtailed after damage (only minor) to 2 planes, leaving only 1 contestant.

Many thanks to all who helped out and brought equipment. Particular thanks to Ann who managed all the scoring in her typical very efficient fashion, and Ray and Jim who helped keep the proceedings rolling along.

Les held the raffle for Werner's 'Recorder', which was won by Jim, who promptly donated it back to the Club. Many thanks Jim for that which will help increase Club funds.

Joe Banial joined us from COGG and won the 2 meter pure sailplane class.

Post by Andy M » Sat Feb 16, 2013 7:13 pm

On August 3, 2013, the Southern Ontario Glider Group (SOGGI) will host their annual one day thermal duration competition for 2 Meter and under class, non-powered and electric powered sailplanes. There will be a trophy for the top place in each 2m category.

Registration starts at 9:00 am, pilots briefing at 9:30, contest start at 10:00.

Proof of MAAC membership is required. Pilots from other clubs, extra winches, hi-starts and shade tents also welcome. Pilots bringing winches/hi-starts etc. are requested to please arrive by 8:30 am to set up equipment.

There will be no entry fees.

Participation in SOGGI thermal duration contests is being promoted to enable League of Silent Fight Level II and above accomplishments. The non-powered class will count towards LSF Level II and above if there are sufficient contestants (5 for Level II, 10 for Level III). Participants are encouraged to fly in the non-powered class to make up these numbers where possible.

The contest will be held at the SOGGI Fletcher Rd field, south east corner of Fletcher Rd and Binbrook Rd (9.7 km south of the Red Hill Valley Parkway/Stone Church Rd exit in Hamilton). Please contact Contest Director Andy Meysner, 905 279 0173, meysner@sympatico.ca for directions to the field and any further information.

If weather is unsuitable a new date will be agreed at the field on the day, or by email if the weather forecast causes cancellation beforehand.

MAAC sanction number 2013-204.
