ALES #6 was held on Sunday August 20. We had 5 contestants at the start, the weather was near perfect with a good but not too strong breeze, and it turned out to be an enjoyable day.
Larry Literovich joined us from GNATS and Dick Colley and Ann Tekatch helped out with setting up, timing etc.
Unfortunately only Andy and Heinz were able to complete all 8 rounds with Les, Larry and Jack having to retire for various reasons. Of note though is that if we had only flown 3 rounds, Jack would have been a clear winner. His launches and flight durations were very competitive.
Thanks to all for turning out and to Ann, Dick and all for helping things run smoothly.
After the contest was finished we successfully tried out the OneWinch. See the post under Model Construction and Flight Trimming.
Results and pics below. Ann was our usual photographer, thanks Ann.

ALES Contest #6 Sunday August 26, 2012
On Sunday August 26, 2012 we will host the 6th open class Altitude Limited Electric Sailplane (ALES) contest.
Pilot registration starts at 9:30 AM. Proof of MAAC membership is required. Flying begins at 10 AM and as many rounds as weather permits will be flown.
There is no entry fee.
This thermal duration with precision landing contest is open to all MAAC or AMA sailplane pilots, and to any electric R/C sailplane with an altitude/launch duration limiting device.
The contest will conform to the ALES League rules ... see http://ales-league.org/alesleaguerules.pdf
Visiting pilots please contact CD Andy Meysner 905 279 0173, meysner@sympatico.ca for further information and for directions to our field near Binbrook, Ontario. Pilots from other clubs are of course welcome.
If you do not have an altitude/launch duration limiting device on your electric sailplane, please join us anyway and we'll figure out a way to join in the fun. Although scoring may need to be separated from those pilots with an altitude/launch duration limiting device on their sailplanes.
MAAC Sanction # 2012-411.
