SOGGI LSF Contest of August 13, 2009
Thank you to my guest George Howarth, who took many pictures at our contest. I've selected a few to share with you here. George's more complete photo set is a record of our contest from arrival to departure.

Re: League of Silent Flight
Howdy LSF Level II Aspirants. To reach Level II each of us needs to enter six contests. "Local" contests are as follows for the balance of 2009:
COGG Sunday July 12 Open Sailplane
SOGGI Saturday July 18, 2009 Otto Bandman Memorial ... open class duration
ORCC (Ottawa) Saturday August 15, 2009 Inter-club Thermal Duration Series Round 4
COGG Sunday August 16 Open Sailplane
SOGGI Sunday Sept 6, 2009 Big Bird Bash ... Wingspan 100+ inches
COGG Sunday Sept 13 Open Sailplane
Since not all of us are likely to be able to make all of these contests, we could supplement this list with some more "last minute" contests of our own. How about holding a "SOGGI Thermal Duration Series" on the following dates (or your proposal of alternative dates)?
Tuesday July 7, Thursday July 9, Friday July 10 and Tuesday July 14
We might need to apply for MAAC sanctions, and we could e-mail invitations to the usual suspects.
The Level II requirement is 6 contests with one "place" (1st, 2nd or 3rd) or 3000 points.
Excerpt from "LSF Tasks ... Section 11 - Competition"
Competition requirements specified in the Soaring Accomplishments Program, Requirements Summary, section 12, may be fulfilled only in LSF recognized contests which are defined to be those meeting the following specifications:
A-Size ... All contestants must compete at the same location on the same date ... Level II - Five (5) or more participants
B - Rounds
Three or more separate opportunities to score
C - Events
Fifty percent (50%) or more of the contest events must adhere to at least one of the following guidelines:
1. Thermal Event Guideline - Extended thermal duration, distance, or speed; precision aerobatics, or altitude.
2. Slope Events Guideline - Duration, distance, speed, precision aerobatics, or altitude.
D - Scoring
Two alternative methods of scoring may be used to meet competition requirements. Either the Place System, where a place is recognized to be first (1st), second (2nd), or third (3rd) in the final standing of a contest; or the Competition Points System, where a minimum total of competition points from any six (6) contests may be used. Competition points are computed by first dividing the participant's score by the winner's score and multiplying by 100; then, multiplying the resultant value by one (1) plus the number of lower standing contestants. A minimum of six (6) contests must be flown no matter which scoring method is used.
Example:
(a) Winner earns a score of 531
(b) Participant earns a score of 312
(c) Participant beats 5 other contestants.
(d) Participant's Competition Points are:
312 / 531 x 100 x (1 + 5) = 352.

Dick, sorry about the witness thing.
With some more rainy days forecast I hope to get more videos up. Here's Otakar from yesterday:

Where have all the Flyers Gone?
This morning (Saturday) I made eight five foot landings in a row but sadly there was no one there to witness the event!
However, it was a day to practice landings - no wind - not even a breeze - and very light lift.
Looks like rain tommorrow!
All the best,
Dick C.

Again apologies for the erasure.
Otakar has thrown down the gauntlet for 5 ft landings. I will post a video shortly.
