Article and construction drawings for Wubba POWWA, a 40" sport rubber-freeflight

This is a stick-and-tissue cabin model with more than 300 flights on the prototype. The design incorporates a number of unusual features that enhance performance and also save the pilot time and effort. These features are described in an Article, together with the reasons for choosing these features.

All drawings and templates are full scale. The various 8 1/2" x 14" and 8 1/2" x 11" templates and the Wubba POWWA Article can probably all be printed on your own printer. Note that the 8 1/2" x 14" Insignia Template is intended to be printed in colour on the model's covering tissue ... see instructions provided on the template.

The construction drawings are E-size (48" x 36"). If you save a copy of each of these files on a memory stick and provide that memory stick to a print shop, they will be able to produce full size paper copies for you. Alternatively, you could try asking the print shop to simply open this webpage to obtain the files and print them.

The paper templates are intended to be sacrificed for carving the propeller, for saw-cutting various shaped-parts (e.g. wing ribs) and for producing a graphic insignia for the aircraft's wing. If you work with the sacrificial template files, you can ignore the redundant versions of these templates shown on Construction Drawing sheet 2 of 2.
The shaped parts are shown nested on 3" wide sheets. Where multiple quantities of the same part are required, templates indicate the quantity of balsa or plywood sheets that are to make up a stack to be saw-cut.

A construction drawing for the model's Montreal-Stop propeller brake forms part of the Wubba POWWA drawing package. Making this propeller brake requires a somewhat different skill set, plus some basic machine tools. Alternatively, commercial propeller brakes are usually available for purchase on the market.

The Wubba POWWA Article and related Construction Drawings are all in .pdf format. You will need to have the free Adobe Reader installed on your computer for viewing or printing these files. Then, click on the links below. If the screen appears black, scroll up or down to find the image.
Do you keep a record of the settings in your transmitter(s) for each model? No doubt some of you do. I had been meaning to make a record of this for some time and procrastination eventually caught up with me.

I had the programming roller selector switch on my Spektrum DX6i go kaput recently, so had to send the Tx in for repair. I thought before sending it in that I wished I had made a record of all the settings. After the switch when kaput of course, I had no accessibility then to any settings. Well Horizon Hobby in replacing the switch also upgraded the firmware to the latest version for this Tx. Consequently all my settings were deleted. So I now have to rebind and set up from scratch 9 models. Not too big a deal except for the 4 servo DLGs which to say the least on a DX6i are complicated and need launching/test flying to get right.

I will now put all my settings in a spreadsheet, lesson learned.

Great service from Horizon Hobby by the way. I've had cause to send my Tx back twice plus an Rx where one antenna broke off. They are very prompt and have never charged me anything, not even shipping back. So the only cost is postage to Illinois. In the case of the Rx they replaced it for a new one.

Andy
